eCosCentric Limited, the eCos experts, today announced the availability of their eCosPro plugin for the Eclipse Juno release. This plugin brings a stable, reliable, graphical development environment for eCosPro applications to the Juno release of Eclipse, providing eCosPro developers access to the new features and improved workflow provided by the updated Eclipse release.

The Eclipse Juno release provides an updated and more flexible user interface from previous Eclipse releases, adopting a more modern visual style and reducing clutter. Elements of the user interface have been redesigned to reduce emphasis on non-selected items and the workbench now has a global search field in the tool bar providing smoother access and integration with the “Quick Access” feature. Additional improvements have also been made to the Debug perspective, allowing integration with the global toolbar which spans views, providing embedded developers with a simpler and smoother workflow between the different stages within the software development life-cycle.

The eCosPro Eclipse plugin Juno release also introduces enhancements over prior releases, allowing developers to create multiple eCos configurations within an eCos Configuration Project and specify which is to be used for builds. Alternatively developers may simply leave the task of building a newly configured eCos to the Eclipse CDT project builder which is now fully integrated with the Eclipse background builder. eCos developers using the Helios release of the eCosCentric Eclipse CDT plugin may also seamlessly migrate their projects to the newer Juno release which is fully backwards compatible with Helios. Included with the plugin update are several bug fixes as well as updated versions of the eCos host tools to further enhance the eCosPro Eclipse development environment.

“With the update of our eCosPro Eclipse plugin to Eclipse Juno, eCosCentric are pleased to demonstrate our commitment to providing a complete one-stop-shop solution to our customers for the development of embedded eCosPro applications using the best current tools available”, said Alex Schuilenburg, CEO of eCosCentric. “This update also allows eCosPro developers to access the additional features, enhancements and plugins available in the Eclipse Juno release and will be made available to eCosCentric customers with an active support agreement.”

This update builds on the eCosPro 3.1 Developer’s Kits where eCosPro developers on Windows hosts have seen a near four-fold improvement in build times through completely native Windows tools and reliable remote debugging of eCosPro applications over serial, ethernet, JTAG and BDM hardware. All the popular recent Linux distributions are also supported, including both 32 and 64 bit variants of Ubuntu LTS 12.04, openSUSE 12.3 and Fedora 17.
