A new device is now available for developers building Internet of Things (IoT) applications and solutions. Created by Thingsee (a provider of developer devices and platforms), Thingsee One is designed to provide developers with a cost-effective and simple way for developing and deploying their IoT apps.

“Cost and complexity can now no longer prevent IoT ideas and innovation becoming reality,” said Pasi Jokinen, CEO of Thingsee. “This product is the start of the democratization of IoT development.”

Thingsee One was first introduced through a Kickstarter campaign at the end of last year, and has received more than US$100,000 from more than 500 backers. It features an accelerometer; gyroscope; magnetometer; humidity, temperature, pressure and light sensors; weatherproofing and impact resistance; long battery life; and extensive cellular connectivity.

“Thingsee One knows what is happening around it and instantly informs you of any important events,” the company wrote on its Kickstarter page. “It monitors the temperature, if it’s dark or light, or if it’s raining. It knows when it is moved, with what speed and the exact location. It tells you if someone kicks it or touches it softly, if it’s tilted or rolling around. And if that’s not enough for you, you can easily configure Thingsee One to monitor other things as well.”

Users without programming experience can create IoT solutions via Thingsee’s mobile application, and users with programming experience can take advantage of the Thingsee Backend SDK to build Web services and mobile apps.

In addition, there is a Thingsee Device SDK for embedded developers who want full hardware control.

“All software needs hardware to run, and hardware is also a core enabler in all Internet of Things solutions,” according to the Kickstarter page. “Thingsee One saves time and money by offering a reasonably priced developer device for IoT makers, or for people who just want to use it straight out of the box for a specific use case by simply configuring it via our mobile app.”

The company also announced the beta version of its visual programming tool. Thingsee Creator allows developers to create prototypes in minutes, according to the company.
