Cloud Foundry Foundation, home of the leading open source cloud native application platform, today announced that Mirantis, the pure-play OpenStack company, has joined the organization. By joining, Mirantis is committing to supporting Cloud Foundry and partnering with distribution vendors in its ecosystem instead of building its own Cloud Foundry distribution.

“As the pure-play OpenStack company, Mirantis is focused on making OpenStack the best way to build a private cloud and enable software development,” said Alex Freedland, Mirantis co-founder and chairman. “Part of that vision is making it as simple as possible to deploy and manage technologies higher ‘up the stack’ — like Cloud Foundry, which has become a very popular PaaS for developer productivity on top of OpenStack. We believe that OpenStack serves the market best by supporting the most popular PaaS solutions and giving enterprise customers maximum choice, rather than prescribing a specific PaaS.”

Cloud Foundry is the leading Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) open source project and is experiencing significant increases in community contributions and user and vendor investments. IDC forecasts 27 percent annual growth for the overall PaaS market from 2013-2018. OpenStack is the leading open source cloud software project, with hundreds of deployments and thousands of developers across the globe. 451 Research predicts OpenStack revenue to hit $3.3B by 2018.

“Mirantis and the OpenStack community are doing important work at the infrastructure level of the stack,” said Sam Ramji, CEO of Cloud Foundry. “We’re looking forward to their contributions to optimize OpenStack and Cloud Foundry and empower developers to build their applications for the cloud — quickly and easily.”

Mirantis and other members will join Cloud Foundry Foundation at the Cloud Foundry Summit on May 11 and 12. The event will bring together more than 1500 application developers, IT operations experts, technical managers, business leaders, service providers and project contributors in an independent forum to accelerate and advance the Cloud Foundry open source project and help the community set its agenda for the year.
