SmartBear Software today announced TestComplete 9.0, the latest release of its award-winning automated testing tool. TestComplete 9.0 introduces a new approach to cross-browser testing that simplifies test reuse across Microsoft Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome browsers. Additionally, TestComplete now supports HTML5 testing, adding to its extensive list of supported rich Internet applications (RIAs).

Catherine Iannuzzo, Director of Engineering at Carbonite, Inc., said, “In an agile development environment, speed and agility is crucial. With nightly tests running on multiple versions of browsers and operating systems in our test lab, TestComplete made it possible to demonstrate the benefits of test automation and short turn-around times. The automation benefits of TestComplete 9.0, coupled with early error detection, allow us to improve our testing processes and continue to provide support for the latest Web technologies.”

“Web testing challenges multiply with the need to frequently test combinations of different browsers, browser versions, and operating systems, particularly with agile and continuous delivery approaches,” said Sergei Sokolov, Director of Product Management, SmartBear. “With the new TestComplete release, we are delivering vastly simplified cross-browser testing with an intuitive test object model generalizing access to pages, Web objects, including HTML5, and browser-specific menus and dialogs. Whether our customers use bleeding edge HTML5, or the latest in widely adopted enterprise-grade RIA technologies such as Flex, Silverlight, or AJAX, TestComplete has them covered.”

Cross-browser Testing
TestComplete 9.0 enables users to record tests in one browser and then run them in other supported browsers. Using the built-in Network Suite for automating distributed testing with TestExecute, software testers can reduce time and effort to set up and run tests targeting multiple browsers on multiple physical or virtual test machines in their test lab.

HTML5 Testing
TestComplete 9.0 now offers “out of the box” support for Web forms and multimedia applications incorporating the emerging HTML5 standard, including audio, video, and canvas elements to draw graphics on the fly. Testers can now record and or script automated tests for HTML5 websites running in the latest versions of popular browsers.

According to Ray Valdes, Research VP, Gartner, Inc., “There is a broad-based, industry-wide momentum around HTML5. Initial adoption is largely outside the enterprise sector – among progressive Web designers and among mobile application developers. Look for opportunities to embrace HTML5 via tool and browser vendors that provide early support. These opportunities may consist of building new, small websites that need advanced functionality or mobile access, or add-ons to existing websites.”

Updated Support for other RIA technologies
TestComplete 9.0 is empowering testers with the latest support for UI technologies, adding new or updating built-in support for latest versions of  jQuery, Google Web Toolkit, Adobe Flash, Flex SDK, and Silverlight 5. This makes testers working with RIAs more productive, whether they use recording or scripting to create automated tests.
