Hortonworks, the leading contributor to and provider of Apache Hadoop, today announced it has signed an agreement with Hitachi Data Systems Corporation (HDS) to jointly promote and support Hadoop. The agreement enables HDS to deliver Hortonworks Data Platform (HDP), the industry’s only 100-percent open source data platform powered by Apache Hadoop, to Hitachi’s enterprise customers. The move strengthens the HDS portfolio of big data and social innovation strategy solutions.

“Our partnership with Hitachi Data Systems is another proof point of Hortonworks’ commitment to expanding and empowering the Apache Hadoop ecosystem, accelerating innovation and adoption of the market’s only 100-percent open source enterprise Hadoop,” said John Kreisa, vice president of strategic marketing at Hortonworks. “The strategic agreement also provides a joint engineering commitment for the two companies on current and future projects that will help make Hadoop enterprise-ready.”

Built and packaged by the core architects of Apache Hadoop, Hortonworks Data Platform includes all of the necessary components to refine and explore new data sources, and uncover new business insights from big data sources. It is a core component of the next-generation enterprise data architecture as it enables enterprise organizations to capture, process and share data in any format and at any scale.

For HDS, working with the Hortonworks Data Platform reflects the company’s increased efforts in providing business solutions focused on integrating information and analytics in ways that allow for fast deployment and to easily derive value from information.

“Hitachi Data Systems is committed to providing its customers with next-generation technologies that help them leverage big data to its fullest potential to solve their unique business challenges,” said Kevin Eggleston, senior vice president, Social Innovation and Global Industries, Hitachi Data Systems. “Building on our intent to acquire Pentaho, this strategic partnership with Hortonworks adds industry-leading, Hadoop-based solutions to our list of products focused on providing maximum insights through big data analytics.”
