Interviews are always nerve-wracking, tedious, and for the most part uneventful, especially if you are applying to a ton of jobs. And it’s no different for developers going through the process. You would think with a market that has such a high demand for employees like the software development industry that finding a job would be easy, but developers are just like the rest of us when it comes to interviews.

GetVoIP, a VoIP shopper’s guide, surveyed Glassdoor to find out which technology companies had the worst reputation when it comes to the interview process. “Searching for a job can be a long and daunting task,” wrote Reuben Yonatan, founder of GetVoIP, in a post.

“You have to research companies, edit your resume, and carefully craft cover letters. Even then, according to Interview Success Formula’s 2013 study, you only have a 20% chance of actually getting an interview. And once you get an interview, the hiring process is much longer than in the past.”

According to the results, Google, Uber, Amazon, Apple, Facebook and Yahoo were among the top companies to put their candidates through the grinder. It is interesting to see these names in correlation with interview difficulty. These companies are known for innovation and high-quality software, so maybe their interview process has to be the very demanding in order to separate the strong candidates from the weak candidates. Survival of the fittest!

But while these companies put potential employees through a grueling interview process, they aren’t necessarily the ones with the worst interview experience. Twitter, Apple, Uber and LinkedIn were noted to provide the worst experiences, while IBM, Intel, Cisco, Microsoft, Facebook and Google held top spots for positive interview experiences.

It is interesting to see that while some of these companies were marked as the most difficult interviews, that didn’t necessarily mean that their experiences were negative. It goes to show, nothing comes easy in life, and an easy interview doesn’t mean you got the job. These top companies are looking for the best of the best, so expect to have to show your worth. If you want to work at the very best companies, you have to be able to show what you are made of. Google and Facebook aren’t just going to hire anyone off the street; you have to have more than a good resume and the right answers.
