Skytap, Inc., the leading provider of on-demand Environments-as-a-Service (EaaS), today introduced Skytap running on SoftLayer infrastructure. This new offering enables enterprises to rapidly deploy software development and test environments that seamlessly migrate entire complex environments between Skytap and IBM cloud centers globally.
Skytap’s EaaS environment allows customers to rapidly develop and test in the cloud, even their most complex applications, in a fraction of the time required with traditional methods. Built on the SoftLayer infrastructure, customers can use Skytap to drive a fully integrated software development experience and speed collaboration among globally dispersed teams in North America, Europe, and Asia Pacific.
By choosing IBM for its cloud infrastructure, Skytap provides customers with access to one of the most trusted names in computing. According to an IDC survey conducted earlier this year, large enterprises selected IBM as their preferred provider of cloud infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) resources.
“IBM continues to focus on the strong growth of our enterprise cloud business and we see Skytap as a key enabler for enterprises that desire to accelerate their software development lifecycle,” said Jim Comfort the General Manager, GTS Cloud Development & Delivery at IBM. “Running Skytap on SoftLayer eliminates any worries software development teams have about the impacts of underlying infrastructure between test and production so they can focus on what they do best—building better software.”
With this release, Skytap also extends its footprint into EMEA through SoftLayer’s cloud center in London. This expanded access decreases latency for European customers and makes local European teams more efficient by providing nearby cloud computing resources. Skytap customers can also leverage a IBM Cloud center in the APAC region—located in Singapore—as well as two SoftLayer cloud centers based in the U.S. (east and west regions). In March, Skytap on SoftLayer will also be available in a SoftLayer cloud center based out of Dallas, Texas.
“IBM is a clear and trusted leader in delivering cloud computing solutions,” said Thor Culverhouse, CEO of Skytap. “With our new offering, enterprise teams can now support the complete application lifecycle while working in parallel and sharing environments globally. From test to production, enterprises with applications bound for IBM Cloud have a clear advantage.”
