Dynamsoft has updated its HTML5 web-based document scanning software development kit (SDK) to include built-in support for Microsoft’s new Edge browser. The latest version of the SDK, version 11.1, now also marks the availability of barcode reading and webcam add-ons for Windows and Mac OS X platforms.
With support for the Microsoft Edge browser, users can now access TWAIN-based devices for image capture and scanning from the new browser. TWAIN is the dominant standard for interfacing applications and imaging devices. Dynamic Web TWAIN provides ActiveX, Plugin and HTML5 SDK options to facilitate development of web-based TWAIN scanning solutions. Dynamic Web TWAIN has built-in cross browser support for Windows and Mac OS X. The ActiveX and Plugin options support legacy browsers while the HTML5 TWAIN scanning SDK supports modern browsers. These include post-NPAPI Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer v10 and v11, and Edge. The imaging add-ons now available for Windows and Mac OS X platforms include Dynamsoft’s 1D Barcode Reader, the QR Code Reader and the Webcam Capture component. General under-the-hood improvements were also made to these add-ons.
“Reports indicate that Microsoft’s Windows 10 operating system adoption rates have so far comparatively surpassed initial adoption rates of Windows 8 and Windows 7,” said Amy Gu, Vice President of Dynamsoft. “In Windows 10, Microsoft also made available its new Edge browser. Dynamic Web TWAIN provides programmers with simple built-in interfaces to access local TWAIN-based imaging devices from web pages. They need only write a handful of lines of JavaScript code to enable cross-browser document scanning, uploading, editing and processing. This can include barcode decoding in web applications and image captures from webcams. It saves months of work and related costs by freeing teams from having to do TWAIN coding from scratch. Development teams also realize minimized related long-term user support. With Dynamsoft’s active SDK development and maintenance, developers have access to browser updates and patches so they can instead focus on improving the robustness of their document technology solutions.

Dynamsoft’s Dynamic Web TWAIN v11.1 is now available. The HTML5 Edition starts at $1,624 per server deployment. The SDK can be purchased and downloaded at the company’s website.
