BZ Media LLC today announced that Ted Bahr, president and co-founder, has been named to the Min’s Sales Hall of Fame.

Mr. Bahr was honored at the 2011 Sales Executive of the Year Awards, which was being celebrated at an awards event June 2 at the Grand Hyatt in New York City. At the awards event, hosted by Min Magazine, Mr. Bahr was inducted into the Sales Hall of Fame.

Min — or Media Industry News — is the publishing industry’s most trusted source on consumer and business-to-business magazines. Min reaches thousands of media executives through print, online and in-person events. For more than 60 years, Min has been serving the magazine and media community with unparalleled coverage of this ever-changing industry.

Min describes the Hall of Fame as “a very privileged honor, as the Min Sales Hall of Fame Awards are only bestowed upon executives who have grown through the sales ranks, whose name speaks to his or her excellent reputation in driving revenue and relationships and who has earned the respect of his or her peers and of the advertising community.”

Alan Zeichick, co-founder of BZ Media, said, “This is a very proud moment for all of us who have worked with Ted over the years – or have watched admiringly from the sidelines. As Ted’s colleague, collaborator and business partner for two decades, I can say that this award is richly deserved. Ted is simply the absolute best sales executive in the b-to-b advertising business today.”

Ted Bahr started selling advertising for Ziff-Davis’ Car & Driver Magazine in New York City in 1982, and later moved to selling for Ziff-Davis’ PC Magazine and PC Tech Journal. In 1987 and based in San Francisco, Mr. Bahr moved to Miller Freeman, at the time a 100-person company just beginning to dabble in high-tech publications. Mr. Bahr was a key member of the team that grew Miller Freeman’s high-tech revenues from $5 million to $200 million by the mid-1990s.

In 1988, Mr. Bahr launched Embedded Systems Programming magazine (still in print today) and, selling the first issue by himself, made it the most successful launch in Miller Freeman’s 80-year old history. This record was broken, however, in 1995 by 3D Design — another led launch by Mr. Bahr.

Mr. Bahr quickly moved up the ranks at Miller Freeman, becoming a Publisher at 31. Two years later, he became Group Publisher of the struggling electronics division. where he remade the portfolio by acquisition, divestiture and his specialty, launches. In 1989, Mr. Bahr launched the Embedded Systems Conference and drove that over the next 8 years to become the largest electronics trade show in North America — and it still is today.

At Miller Freeman, Mr. Bahr was named a Vice President in 1994 and a Senior Vice President of Miller Freeman in 1996 (running three divisions) and named to the Board of Directors of this now-1,800 person division of United Business Media in 1997.
In 1998 Mr. Bahr was moved back to New York to become Group President of Miller Freeman, managing five trade divisions of more than 330 people, $110 million in revenue, 17 magazines, two dozen events and countless websites.

A year later, desiring to get back to his roots in magazine and conference launches and selling directly to customers, Mr. Bahr left Miller Freeman to start BZ Media with Alan Zeichick.

At BZ Media, Mr. Bahr is hands-on with sales and sales management every day, having gone on more than 600 sales calls and led the team that took Software Development Times from nothing in a 22-book field to the Number 1 publication — and SD Times continues to dominate the market today.

In 2005, Folio: Magazine named Mr. Bahr to its inaugural “Dream Team” as B-to-B Publisher/Ad Sales Chief.

BZ Media was named to the Inc. Magazine list of 5,000 fastest growing private companies in the U.S. in 2007, 2008 and 2009.
