Fast and painless database deployment in Oracle became a reality today with the launch of Red Gate’s Data Compare for Oracle.
The new tool compares database table contents, highlights differences, generates SQL scripts to match the tables up, and automatically aligns them if desired.
“After making database changes, the last thing you want is to spend hours deploying them,” says Tom Harris, head of Red Gate’s Oracle division. “With Data Compare, deployment is done automatically in minutes, which is quite a relief – I like to think of it as that syncing feeling.”
Stopping the grey
David Hart, senior application developer with T2 Systems, is already a fan.
“We plan to integrate Data Compare for Oracle in our nightly builds. At the moment, all of our data-related changes have to be scripted manually, which is error-prone and not very productive.
“With Data Compare for Oracle, we can easily compare the data in two different database builds and generate the synchronization script. It’s going save at least an hour of development time each week – and stop me from going grey so quickly!”
Part of full deployment suite
Although the tool is available by itself, Oracle developers looking for a smoother way to deploy entire databases can pick it up as part of Red Gate’s Deployment Suite for Oracle, which combines Data Compare with its acclaimed sibling, Schema Compare for Oracle.
Schema Compare provides similar functionality for database structure, so together the pair offer complete database synchronization in one seamless process.
