ActiveState, whose software enables developers and enterprises to innovate from code to cloud, today announced the release of Stackato 1.2. Stackato is the application platform for creating a private Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) using any language on any stack on any cloud. This release delivers several new features, including persistent file system services, enhanced app store functionality, integrated debugging support with Komodo IDE and configurable user/group permissions and quotas.

“Our enterprise customers want to use tools like Drupal in their private cloud environments,” said Bart Copeland, CEO at ActiveState. “Until today, there was no practical way for them to do it. Stackato 1.2 enables file-system-dependent applications like Drupal CMS to share storage between multiple instances while still ensuring data and application security, and all within a multi-tenant cloud environment.”

Stackato 1.2 also showcases new app store features, allowing developer and enterprise IT users to deploy ready-to-go applications from the web-based Management Console with a single click. Administrators can customize the Stackato App Store configuration to support business needs, pulling applications from any specified source. The Stackato App Store framework includes multi-store support and enhanced search and filter functionality.

“Stackato 1.2 is all about control,” said Jeff Hobbs, VP of Engineering and CTO at ActiveState. “It’s the only Cloud Foundry-based PaaS solution to offer group and user-specific controls, a powerful tool for enterprises looking to maintain transparent oversight of cloud application development and deployment processes. With Stackato 1.2, IT administrators can set memory, service and application quotas for individual users, or even groups.”

Stackato 1.2 is available in Enterprise and Micro Cloud editions, as well as via the ActiveState Stackato Sandbox for trial evaluations. Stackato Enterprise is priced per VM per year.
