LEAD Technologies is pleased to announce the release of the Media Streaming Server SDK. This major addition to the LEADTOOLS Multimedia product line will be included with the LEADTOOLS Streaming Module (formerly the Video Streaming Module) and provides a programmer-friendly library for building professional audio/video multimedia streaming applications for playback on any device.
The new Media Streaming Server provides a high-level framework for streaming high-quality audio/video content. Using a single server, content providers can support a wide variety of both proprietary and industry-standard formats and protocols including Adobe Flash, Adobe HDS, Apple HTTP Live Streaming (HLS), Microsoft Smooth Streaming (SSF), RTSP and HTML5. With this flexibility, practically any device can play videos streamed from the LEADTOOLS Media Streaming Server, while the content provider only needs to maintain the source media in a single format. Once configured, the server automatically and adaptively converts any file within its repository on the fly to whatever streaming format is requested by the client.
“Streaming multimedia content to clients has grown into more than just a popular way to consume entertainment and digital content, it’s an expectation,” said Rich Little, President of LEAD Technologies. “Therefore, a growing number of companies want greater control over how they serve audio and video media to their clients rather than depending on third-party hosting sites or expensive proprietary streaming solutions. LEADTOOLS Media Streaming Server is the answer through its simple setup, robust configuration and user management options, and top-notch video playback quality.”
In addition to the Media Streaming Server, several codecs, multiplexers and demultiplexers received updates and new features. In particular, the ISO/MP4 format was upgraded with support for JPEG-compressed video, uncompressed video, and non-square pixels. The addition of JPEG compression to the ISO multiplexer and demultiplexer allows for smooth 30fps reverse playback and superior video editing capabilities.
This highly-anticipated release is only the beginning of what LEADTOOLS plans to do with its Media Streaming Server. Future releases will include broadcasting live content and handling two-way streaming and communication with the goal of making LEADTOOLS Media Streaming Server the top choice for multimedia streaming among application developers and IT administrators alike.
