DARPA, the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, has made all its open-source software projects available in one location with the DARPA Open Catalog.
The catalog is a response to requests from researchers and developers asking for one easily accessible place for DARPA’s open-source data. Almost 80 software projects are already available, as well as a selection of research publications.
Listed projects include the Julia programming language, data visualization technologies from Oculus VR, and projects dedicated to organizing Big Data sets.
“Making our open-source catalog available increases the number of experts who can help quickly develop relevant software for the government,” DARPA program manager Chris White said in a statement. “Our hope is that the computer science community will test and evaluate elements of our software and afterward adopt them as either standalone offerings or as components of their products.”
DARPA is already planning updates to add more software projects and publication data, including programs such as BOLT (Broad Operational Language Translation) and VMR (Visual Media Reasoning).
DARPA is also working with the XDATA program to develop an open-source library specifically for Big Data.
