To help address intellectual property protection, Arxan Technologies introduced a version of its mobile software protection product, EnsureIT, for Android applications.
To prevent the tampering of applications for Android-based devices, EnsureIT uses “Guards,” which are object code that get integrated into the build process and application, explained Vince Arneja, the company’s vice president of product marketing.
Described as a protection mechanism for code, developers can use the Guards for security approaches such as checksum, anti-debugging, static and dynamic analyses, and obfuscation, he said.
“The open-source software marketplace for Android application development underscores a vital need to build in IP protection, anti-piracy and anti-tampering measures into Android applications in order to safeguard the distribution and integrity of new revenue streams,” said Kevin Morgan, Arxan’s CTO, in a company statement.
EnsureIT for Android supports various versions of the Android operating system, including 1.6, 2.1 and 2.2, and supports the entire Google development platform. It also supports the use of Google’s native development kit to call the Android Dalvik JVM using C/C++.
