One of the recurring comments I heard at last week’s SPTechCon was that people still are in need of reliable resources and information to get through some of the more gnarly SharePoint issues they face. So, in that vein, here are some resources that I have found to be both reliable and current. If you have others that you’d like to share, please shoot me an e-mail at drubinstein@bzmedia.com.
First off, if you’re not on Twitter, you need to be. Follow #sharepoint, which is the hashtag many SharePoint MVPs will include in their posts. From there, you’ll be able to decide which particular individuals you want to follow, depending on whether you’re a developer, IT pro or information worker trying to navigate your way around SharePoint.
I would also recommend joining the SPYam group on Yammer. It is a lively forum on which folks of all disciplines ask questions and receive replies fairly quickly. It makes you feel like you’re not alone out there. Same goes for any number of Facebook pages created for groups of SharePoint users, like architects and IT pros. I find they’re not quite as active or as real-time as the other groups I’ve mentioned, but there are lots of folks there, and the focus is narrower.
Microsoft itself is a veritable font of information about SharePoint—and why wouldn’t it be? It only created the software!
There’s the SharePoint IT Pro blog, the Office 365 technical blog, the SharePoint developer blog on MSDN, and the SharePoint 2013 Tech Center for IT Pros ought to be good places to get you started on your search for the best SharePoint resources.
