Hortonworks, a leading contributor and provider of enterprise Apache Hadoop, today announced management packs for Microsoft System Center Operations Manager and Microsoft System Center Virtual Machine Manager that will manage and monitor Hortonworks Data Platform (HDP), a 100-percent open source data platform powered by Apache Hadoop, for both Windows and Linux deployments. With these management packs, customers will be able to monitor and manage HDP from System Center Operations Manager alongside existing data center deployments and manage HDP from System Center Virtual Machine Manager in virtual and cloud infrastructure deployments.

HDP for Windows makes it easier for the millions of customers running their businesses on Microsoft technologies to have an enterprise-ready Apache Hadoop-based platform that integrates with familiar business analytics tools, such as Microsoft Excel. Microsoft System Center is an integrated management platform that enables organizations to efficiently manage data centers, client devices and hybrid cloud IT environments. The Hortonworks management packs for System Center will provide comprehensive management and monitoring of Hadoop from a single System Center Operations Manager console, enabling enterprises to streamline operations and ensure quality of service levels.

The Hortonworks management packs work with the Apache Ambari management solution.Microsoft and Hortonworks are collaborating on the Ambari specification and on the Windows specific implementation of Ambari.
