Appcelerator has advanced its integrated mobile platform, used to rapidly develop native and mobile Web applications, to include an HTML5 mobile Web application solution with today’s acquisition of Particle Code, a mobile gaming and HTML5 development platform.
This is Appcelerator’s second acquisition of 2011, following its January acquisition of Aptana, the technology behind the Titanium Studio IDE. Particle Code allows Appcelerator to provide additional services for HTML5 mobile Web development through its existing Titanium development platform, which already supports Android and iOS operating systems.
Particle Code enables deployment to native, hybrid and HTML5 mobile Web environments through a singular codebase, allowing developers to create a “platform-agnostic strategy,” according to Appcelerator.
Appcelerator has offered HTML5 mobile Web capabilities in beta on its Titanium platform, and it will continue to do so until the next version, which will be shored up by Particle Code’s technology and staff. It is expected to be released in the second half of next year.
“Additional gaming application development capabilities come with the acquisition, due to the nature of Particle Code’s technology, but our focus is on unifying the native application development and the HTML5 mobile Web development,” said Scott Schwarzhoff, vice president of marketing at Appcelerator.
“As fragmentation among proprietary mobile vendors increases, Appcelerator offers an open-source, integrated mobile platform as a better approach for unifying cross-platform native and HTML5 mobile Web development,” said Jeff Haynie, CEO of Appcelerator.
Both companies are privately held, and the acquisition goes into effect immediately, with the Particle Code team joined with the Appcelerator team as of today.
