Docker has announced major updates to Docker Engine, Compose, Swarm and Machine.
“We’ve been working really hard with the community to improve the quality of our projects, and this release includes a bunch of things to help with that,” wrote Ben Firshman, director of product management at Docker, in a blog post.
New features in the Docker Engine include a ZFS storage driver, new networking internals, rewritten volume internals, and refactored internals.
Compose, Swarm and Machine have been updated to provide smarter “up” commands, Apache Mesos integration, and the ability to configure Engine and Swarm in Machine, according to the company.
In addition, the company announced an experimental release of new networking and plug-in features. With the new networking feature, containers can communicate across different hosts, and the new plug-in system allows users to seamlessly connect containers to third-party systems, according to the company.
Red Hat announces the Container Developer Kit
Red Hat wants to make it easier to set up a development environment for containerized apps. The company announced a new Container Developer Kit (CDK) designed to allow users to set up a container development environment on Linux, OSX and Windows desktops.
The CDK includes Red Hat Enterprise Linux Vagrant Boxes, a Subscription Manager Vagrant registration plug-in, and a Vagrant Atomic plug-in.
The company also announced the release of JBoss Fuse 6.2 and JBoss A-MQ 6.2 with new capabilities to help developers in their enterprise application and messaging initiatives. The new releases are designed to improve developer productivity in three main areas: connectivity, usability and the Internet of Things.
