For developers looking to create apps for Samsung devices, it’s about to be Samsung’s way or the highway.
The Samsung App Sellers Office announced that effective July 1, developers are required to submit apps developed using the Samsung SDK. Apps submitted before the deadline can still be built using other tools and existing apps can be updated without using the SDK.

Given the timing with this week’s Tizen Conference—the first official developer event dedicated to the rival mobile OS Samsung has thrust into the marketplace— the decision to make its apps exclusive to the Samsung SDK could mark another sign of the company’s effort to break away from Android, reducing its dependency on Google’s mobile operating system and developer tools.
Samsung also made one other change to its app submission policy, notifying developers that any who registered before Feb. 20 of this year and have not yet submitted an app will have their memberships terminated, effective July 1.
