JetBrains, creator of IntelliJ IDEA, PhpStorm and other professional development tools, has announced the opening of its AppCode 3.0 Marocchino Early Access Program (EAP).
“We at JetBrains believe that making tools for developers should greatly involve listening to developers. Our Early Access Program lets the development community closely participate in discussions and influence product development planning, from early stages onwards,” the company wrote on its website.

AppCode is the company’s Objective-C IDE for iOS/OS X developers. It features coding assistance, code-quality tracking, a debugger, seamless integrations, project navigation, and refactorings.
AppCode 3.0 Marocchino EAP features an integrated UI designer and enhanced project settings.
The UI designer supports .xib and .storyboard formats for iOS. The company says support for OS X will come later. The EAP version of designer supports “all basic editor features together with the convenient navigation, full component pallet supported by iOS SDK and Auto Layout,” according to JetBrains’ AppCode blog.
The UI designer preview was announced last December. Those who already have it should uninstall it before installing AppCode 3.0 EAP.
Project settings were improved to make the UI lightweight and convenient. Due to numerous requests about target management, JetBrains has also applied the possibility to add targets.
Code improvements includes a better understanding of users’ code to help find potential errors effectively, as well as the ability to create a new test methods or setup/teardown methods for Kiwi, Google Test, OCUnit and XCTest.
Other features in the EAP include support for macros in the formatter, a reworked Xcode keymap, a lens mode, improved C++ support, a new log viewer for Git and Mercurial, support for Subversion 1.8, and a built-in terminal to run commands locally or remotely with the SSH protocol.
It also should be noted that AppCode EAP versions will be labeled with codenames inspired by cocoa-based drinks—hence AppCode 3.0 Marocchino EAP.
“From the practical side, this makes it easier to find information on the specific AppCode versions in our blog, so for example, you can search our blog with the tag of ‘Marocchino’ to find all the posts related to AppCode 3.0,” the company wrote.
