After Wednesday’s nomination for “Outstanding Documentary” by the 24th Annual GLAAD Media Awards, TODpix, the distributor of the award-winning film CODEBREAKER, announced today the film will be released to a nationwide audience next month.

“The GLAAD Media Award nomination for ‘Outstanding Documentary’ is a great honor,” said Patrick Sammon, the film’s creator and one of its executive producers.  “This nomination, coupled with the enthusiastic response the film received during its recent premiere, underscores for us the importance of Alan Turing’s story and the need for it to reach audiences across the nation.”

The drama documentary chronicles the extraordinary life of gay, World War II hero Alan Turing.  Turing is one of the 20th century’s most important people.   He’s the father of computer science and artificial intelligence.  He also cracked the German Naval Enigma code during World War II, helping to turn the tide of war and save millions of lives.  Instead of accolades, Turing faced terrible persecution from the British government because he was gay.  Unfortunately, he committed suicide in 1954 at the age of only 41 years old.

Starting in February 2013, the distributors of CODEBREAKER are placing it before audiences across the country using a unique, new model called “theatrical on demand”.  This grassroots model puts the decision-making power in the hands of moviegoers, guaranteeing the film’s screening in any community where there is sufficient interest.  CODEBREAKER has already played to enthusiastic  audiences during the film’s nine-city, U.S. premiere late last year in New York City, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh,  Fort Lauderdale, Chicago, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle, and Washington, DC.

“The nationwide release of CODEBREAKER is a truly grassroots effort,” said Andrew Fogelson, president of TODpix.  “It’s exciting for us to be using this new ‘theatrical on demand’ model for the national release of CODEBREAKER.  It’s a fitting tribute to Alan Turing that the digital technology he was so instrumental in creating is what will be used to make sure this film reaches as many people as possible.”

Starting in the next few weeks, TODpix will be announcing additional screening dates and locations for CODEBREAKER in cities across the country.  In the meantime, in order for a city to be considered for a screening, moviegoers need to visit the film’s website at www.todpix.com and fill out a short request form.  Once a location is approved, the moviegoers can share the link for tickets using social media and other outreach tools.  After 50 tickets have been reserved, credit cards will be charged and the screening will be scheduled.

CODEBREAKER is one of five nominees for the GLAAD Media Award’s “Outstanding Documentary”.  Ceremonies for the 24th Annual GLAAD Media Awards will be held in New York on March 16, 2013 at the New York Marriott Marquis; in Los Angeles on April 20 at the JW Marriott; and in San Francisco on May 11 at the Hilton San Francisco-Union Square.  For more information on the GLAAD Media Awards, visit: www.glaad.org/mediaawards.
