Gizmox is preparing a commercial release of its open-source Visual WebGui AJAX development framework. Gizmox has adopted the jQuery library as its client-side engine while mimicking the Windows Forms development model.

Visual WebGui is a forms-based development environment for Visual Studio that can generate a presentation layer in HTML or Silverlight 3. The upcoming edition, Visual WebGui 6.4, is focused on increasing developer productivity.

It introduces a new control-level designer and theme designer. The theme designer permits developers to customize the look and feel of the application interface, which was difficult to accomplish in previous release, said CEO Navot Peled.

“It offers a point-and-click way to theme, replacing images and changing styles in the visual designer without writing CSS or HTML files,” he explained.

Gizmox also improved Visual WebGui’s scalability to serve multiple simultaneous  users, according to the company.

A beta version of Visual WebGui 6.4 is available for download now. The final edition will ship by the end of the first quarter. The enterprise version also adds support and maintenance. Pricing has not been announced.
