MODE, Inc., today announced the official launch of MODE, a platform designed to help developers and emerging brands delivering Internet of Things (IoT) solutions. In addition, the company secured $775,000 in seed funding, led by Metamorphic Ventures, Kleiner Perkins Caufield Byers, and several angel investors in Silicon Valley. The company will use the new funding to start serving high-volume traffic on its platform.

Created by former Google engineer Gaku Ueda and former Yahoo engineer Ethan Kan, MODE is a cloud platform that takes care of the most essential function of any IoT system: connecting mobile applications with hardware devices in real time. The platform provides an intuitive cloud API for devices, mobile clients and application servers. IoT developers can utilize MODE as the backend infrastructure throughout the entire development cycle, from prototyping to product launch.

“We are very excited to be working with the MODE team. Gaku and Ethan are extremely talented engineers and engineering leaders that have built some of the most influential products on the web,” said David Hirsch, Managing Partner of Metamorphic Ventures. “The fact that Mike Abbott at Kleiner Perkins (Gaku’s former boss at Twitter), Othman Laraki (ex-VP Product at Twitter), and Brian McClendon (VP Engineering at Google) invested with us is a testament to that. Our strategy is to invest in great teams in growing markets, and we couldn’t feel more aligned as partners with MODE.”

MODE serves as a virtual backend team for IoT companies. By handling all of the backend services, such as user and device management and secure real-time access control, companies that use MODE can focus on the things that matter the most to their users, like hardware manufacturing and mobile user experience. With IoT startups in mind, including those with Kickstarter and IndieGoGo projects, MODE has implemented free prototyping on its platform in addition to a flexible pricing structure for mass production.

“Startups have always been the heart of innovation, and we look forward to helping startup IoT developers in their quest to create the technology of the future,” said Gaku Ueda, Co-founder and CEO of MODE, Inc.

The platform is immediately available for use by IoT developers and works with any devices or mobile operating systems. For more information, visit www.tinkermode.com.
