Red Hat is updating Red Hat Software Collections 2.2 and Red Hat Developer Toolset 4.1 with new features focused on agility, production stability and application development.
“Developers need the latest tools to build modern applications, particularly cloud-native applications, but the business at large requires a commitment to application stability that many of these tools simply do not have,” said Jim Totton, vice president and general manager of Red Hat’s platforms business unit.

Red Hat Software Collections is designed to enable developers to build multiple versions of the same solution on one system. It provides developers with the latest open-source web development tools, dynamic languages and databases, and it updates preexisting collections such as Apache 2.4, MongoDB 2.6, Python 2.7 and Thermostat 1.4.
“Backed by Red Hat’s enterprise-grade support and our robust technology portfolio, the latest installment of Red Hat Software Collections helps developers gain access to the latest stable builds of needed tools while holding true to the requirements of the broader business for stable, supported production applications,” said Totton.
The Red Hat Developer Toolset is the company’s collection of stable open-source C and C++ compilers and development tools that allow developers to compile apps once and push them to multiple Red Hat Enterprise Linux versions. Version 4.1 includes the addition of the GNU Compiler Collection 5.3, GNU Project Debugger 7.11, and Eclipse 4.5.2, as well as enhancements to its existing components and performance tools.
