The arrival of Visual Studio 2010 this week has opened the floodgates for third parties to sell solutions that exploit its features.
Flexera Software has shipped a new edition of InstallShield to replace Visual Studio Installer as the suite’s preferred MSI installer development tool. It includes the ability to build deployment projects using Team Foundation Server.
“Visual Studio customers develop a wide range of applications for consumers, small businesses and the largest enterprises,” said Jason Zander, general manager of Visual Studio at Microsoft. “Realizing the value of those applications starts with an error-free installation.”
Component maker Infragistics announced that it will deliver NetAdvantage for .NET 2010 Volume 2 within 30 days of Visual Studio 2010’s launch.
“With NetAdvantage for .NET 2010 Volume 2, Infragistics will fully support the improved development process of Visual Studio 2010,” said Jason Beres, vice president of product management at Infragistics. It will build ASP.NET Client Templates to give developers a client-side data-access and data-binding experience similar to Web Forms applications, and it intends to support Silverlight 4 and Windows Presentation Foundation 4.0.
Intel plans to leverage Visual Studio’s Concurrency Runtime layer (ConcRT) Resource Manager. ConcRT will enable multiple parallel programming models to be used within a single program to cooperate, said James Reinders, director of marketing for Intel’s software development products, in his Intel blog.
A forthcoming update will enable Intel’s Parallel Studio to integrate with Visual Studio 2010, offering complementary (not duplicate) functionality, Reinders stated. Microsoft designed .NET 4.0’s Parallel Patterns Library to be compatible with Intel technology.
Development productivity tool maker JetBrains released ReSharper 5.0, which supports all .NET 4.0 technologies. ReSharper features code analysis and project maintenance tools that go beyond what Visual Studio 2010 provides. It also includes code inspection, code generation and navigation tools that plug into the IDE.
JNBridge announced a new edition of its JNBridgePro interoperability tool suite with support for Visual Studio 2010 and Microsoft .NET Framework 4. JNBridgePro connects Java and .NET Framework-based components and applications together using plug-ins for Eclipse and Visual Studio. It will ship on April 26.
“.NET Framework 4 has a brand new set of core assemblies,” said Wayne Citrin, CTO of JNBridge. “Users need to be able to create interoperability projects that are targeted toward a specific version of the .NET Framework…JNBridgePro 5.1 enables users to target the specific .NET Framework version they need.”
Business intelligence development software maker Syncfusion released Syncfusion Essential Studio 2010 Volume 2, an update that features full support for Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 and .NET Framework 4. It integrates with Visual Studio’s designer surface and can create Web applications using Silverlight 4 and ASP.NET MVC 2.0.
