ESRI’s ArcGIS Mapping for SharePoint, a set of configurable mapping components that enables SharePoint administrators or contributors to embed an interactive map within SharePoint, is now available, the company has announced.

ArcGIS Mapping for SharePoint enables site users to discover and leverage the geographic aspect of their data in maps that are easy to understand. The tool is now supported in SharePoint 2010.

ESRI’s tool gives SharePoint apps access to maps and satellite images from ArcGIS Online or Bing Maps, and operational layers such as SharePoint lists, ArcGIS Server services, and SQL Server 2008 data, according to the company. Configuration is handled through dialog boxes.

In a statement announcing the release, ESRI said, “ArcGIS Mapping for SharePoint is built on the ArcGIS API for Microsoft Silverlight/WPF and is available at no cost for existing ArcGIS Server customers. Learn more by visiting the ArcGIS Mapping for SharePoint website at www.esri.com/sharepoint.”
